Transforming a Bristol School with a Modern Bathroom Upgrade

Overview

When Charborough Road Primary School in Horfield, Bristol, faced the challenge of an outdated, inefficient restroom area, the school knew it was time for a change. The existing space lacked natural light and didn’t maximise the available space, making it less functional and welcoming for the pupils.

Recognising the need for a modern, student-friendly environment, The Olympus Academy Trust and AtkinsRéalis called in UES to take on the renovation. With a short summer break to complete the project, time was of the essence.

What was the solution?

Leveraging our experience in restroom renovations, UES quickly mobilised a network of trusted partners to execute the project seamlessly. With a thorough understanding of the school’s needs, we set out to create a space that would be bright, functional, and accessible to all students.

Once the pupils left for the summer holidays, we moved swiftly. We transformed the toilets into a more open, versatile space with significantly improved lighting and accessibility. As a full-service contractor, UES handled every aspect of the renovation—from mechanical and electrical systems to carpentry and flooring—ensuring the project stayed on track and within budget. Our ability to manage every component under one roof allowed us to complete the project efficiently and precisely.

What was the result?

The transformation was a resounding success, with the once-outdated facilities now boasting a fresh, modern look that has positively impacted the school community. The new design maximises natural light, providing students with a much brighter and more welcoming atmosphere. The addition of accessible cubicles ensured the space was inclusive, while the modern fixtures and layout improvements created a more functional and comfortable environment.

Delivered on time and on budget, the project was completed before the start of the new term, allowing students to enjoy the upgraded facilities from day one. Feedback from the client has been overwhelmingly positive, with the project setting the standard for future renovations within the school.
